Ms. Lorna |Mercer Arboretum Potrait Session | Houston Potrait Photographer

I had a great time, photographing Lorna at the Mercer Arboretum in Houston. See I was so thrilled when she told me she wants a portrait session. Lorna is my one and only Sister and she doesn’t not like being photographed, needless to say I was all over this and we couldn’t have chosen a better location. This session had to be done very fast…You see, when we entered the arboretum, they had numerous signs” Beware of Snakes” in all Caps! Anyone who knows me, that is one creature I don’t ever want to run into…So my sister was having fun, when I would panic and stop shooting to listen.

Today is her Birthday and I want to share her images with the world… Happy Bday Sis!! Love you!

Katie Vintage Bridal Session | McKinney TX Wedding Photographer

Congratulations to Katie and Andrew who got married on 8/23, and it was a very intimate wedding. She’s the newest addition to the U.S Army as an Army Wife and I was honored to be a part of their day.

Katie wanted to have a vintage feel for her bridal session and was willing to drive up to Dallas from Houston . M Group Studio was the best indoor location I could think of and voila it really worked. I could not stop swooning over how gorgeous her dress is/was. Look at the detail on her veil as well….LOVE her dress and veil.

I have been holding on to these images for tooooo long, it’s time to share and I trust you shall enjoy looking at them as much as I did shooting them.

Check back, for their wedding day images.

Phyllis+Steve Plano Engagement Session

Phyllis and Steve are getting married end of April. I was so thrilled when they chose me to be their wedding photographer.

I love shooting engagement sessions, it’s a great time and way to know my clients and for them to get to know me and how I work. Despite the morning being very cold, we managed to get some great smiles. Did I mention I love the versatility the outdoors provides? I love shooting outdoors…no cramped up 4 walls.

I always send my couples a what to expect, wardrobe advise and some other details you shall  have to find out once you book Asapphire Photography to be a part of your life :-) and this couple once again nailed it.

Please enjoy. I’m getting excited that this wedding is in about 5 weeks and I’ll get another opportunity to work with Phyllis and Steve.

Susan’s Bridal Session | Dallas Ft.Worth Wedding Photographer

Susan got married and now it’s time I got caught up on showing you my audience all the awesomeness.

I LOVE bridal sessions. This is a day for the bride to get her dress on and feel pretty and get some gorgeous images. Bridal sessions are a good time to get make-up and hair trial run before the big day, and also the perfect chance to interact with the bride before working with her on the wedding day.

For this session, the groom came along and I got some really nice images for them. The couple chose Arlington Hall at Lee Park for their background. This was a hot day in Texas, but we manage to stay sane, I got some great smiles and I know Susan And Alex loved the results. Enjoy viewing the images as much as I did being a part of their lives and making memories.

Photo session at Addison Circle for Mimo to celebrate her 3rd Birthday

Rebecca Wairimu is a very special girl in my life. This lil girl came to our family in 2009, 2 months early and weighing 4lbs. She stayed at the NICU and the doctors were saying she would need at least 4 weeks, before she can be able to go home. Mimo, (short for Wairimu), was and has always been a fighter. 2 weeks later she came home. I was scared to hold her as she looked so tiny and fragile.

Fast forward, today, June 18th is her 3rd Birthday, and to celebrate we had a mini photo session and I had so much fun, photographing my beautiful niece. She loves jewellery, make-up, nail polish and dressing up. Yes at 3 Mimo knows what make-up is. She looks at me when I apply mine and she always tells me, “Auntie, you are so beautiful”…Melts my heart. Everytime Mimo visits my house, she wants to wear my earrings and necklaces. So for this session I could not think of a better way to celebrate a very young lady. Her mum, my sister Lorna, did her hair and I was the MUA. Mimo is so lucky she has an entourage…LOL

Please enjoy!

She got her dance on and her Mum said a word we don’t use…Whatever! Mimo was caught in the moment of telling on her Mum, “ooh mummy said a bad word”. Yes we used candy to bribe her for a couple of more shots.

Finally Lorna gets some camera time too with her adorable daughter.

Getting Ready for Engagement and Couple Pictures

Now that you are Engaged, where do you start? You have a wedding to plan, venues to pick, cakes to taste and the list goes on. Although this post will mainly address the engagement photo shoot, the tips and advice are also applicable for a couple’s and bridal session.

Engagement photo shoots are becoming a modern wedding tradition. Most Wedding photographers are offering these sessions as part of a package or Ala-Carte.  This is a good place to start when you are choosing your photographer, find out if this session is part of a package that suits your budget.

An engagement shoot is a way for a couple to get to know their photographer before the wedding day. It is also a time for the photographer to get to know you and find which poses work best for you as well as which ones you like and dislike.

You have now chosen your wedding photographer and would like to schedule your session…what next?

To start planning for your session, think on how you plan to use your photos, what kind of a session do you want, formal, candid, casual or a theme. Ask your photographer the production times so that if you need the photos for newspaper announcement, or you are getting some other mementos created,  you have them done in plenty of time so as to not miss deadlines.

Here are some tips and advise to give you a jump-start in planning and getting ready for your engagement session:

  • Themes: Although this is optional it will be a dis-service if I fail to mention it. A theme sets the mood in regards to clothing, location choice, props, hair and make up. Themes, can be based on interests, color, hobbies, Love and an era.

  • Location: Choose a place that means something to you and or adds something visually interesting to your shoot. Think of first date, where you got engaged, where you spend alot of time together as a couple. The options are endless. Ask your photographer for suggestions.

  •  Props: This is another optional detail. Do you have a favorite hobby? Is there an activity you both love? Why not incorporate it in your shoot? Bring props along to create a one of a kind session.

Ready, Set, Go…here are the final tips once you have chosen the theme, location, and date of the shoot.

Think Like a model: Make sure nails, toes, hair, clothes, make-up and accesories look great.

  • Groom: Get a haircut atleast 4 days before the day of the shoot, Shave right before heading out for the shoot location. Get a manicure…ok, just have clean, clipped and filed nails.
  • Bride: Have manicured and pedicured nails and toes, or polished nails. Get the hair done and pay extra attention to the roots. Choose  make-up that best suits you. Remember to wear your engagement ring and to apply lotion to your hands.
  • Clothing: Be Comfortable. Wear clothes that are flattering, comfortable and make you feel cute. Ensure clothes are clean and wrinkle free.

Co-ordinate your clothing, this doesn’t mean matchy-match. Avoid busy fabrics and patterns that will draw attention away from your faces.

  • Get a good night sleep, to avoid eye bugs.
  • Stay hydrated.

Remember to Have FUN!!! The best engagement photos capture who you are and your love, please be yourself.

Krystle and Jeremy Addison Circle Engagement Session

Krystle and Jeremy are getting married on 6/7/12 in Lake Tahoe. Their engagement session was taken at the beautiful and versatile Addison Circle and I loved having them in front of my camera. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Carry the Load

This Memorial Weekend I got a chance to participate in a great organization, that is bringing back the real meaning of Memorial Day. The organization is Carry The Load This annual event raises money through participants and sponsorships for existing nonprofit organizations that help active duty service members and their families.

Carry The Load was a 20-hour Memorial Day event honoring and thanking members of the military, law enforcement, firefighers and their families for the sacrifices they make. Participants “Carry the load” for 20 hours and 12 minutes, beginning Sunday, May 27, 2012, at 3:00 pm and ending on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, at 1:00 pm. The course was at the Katy Trail.

It was a great honor to be a part of this event and this was my first official walk ever.
